B runo Mars was born on October 8th, 1985 on the island of Honolulu, Hawaii. His real name is Peter Gene Hernandez and he grew up in a family of musicians. Bruno has five siblings and has been performing on stage since the age of three. As a child, he became known for his Elvis impersonations. He was also known to impersonate Michael Jackson and Little Richard when he was young. These artists among others are known as inspirations for Bruno’s music and stage presence. Today Bruno is known as a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. His style of music ranges from; pop to rock, reggae, soul, R&B, and hip-hop.

Shortly after graduating high school in the summer of 2003, Bruno moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the music industry. For the next 6 years, he developed his skills as an artist; writing songs and even producing them. It was during this time that he changed his name. “Bruno” was a nickname his dad gave him as a child because he looked like a professional wrestler named Bruno. The name “Mars” comes from the idea that he’s from another planet. Bruno’s real fame came after being featured on the songs “Nothin’ on You” and “Billionaire” in 2009. Both songs were top 10 in the charts worldwide.

The following year, Mars released a four-track EP titled, “It’s Better If You Don’t Understand”. Bruno’s first full-length studio album, “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” was also released in 2010 and had two number one hits, “Just the Way You Are” and “Grenade”. The single “Just the Way You Are” won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 2011. The album got to number three on the Billboard 200 with six million copies sold worldwide.

In 2012 Bruno released, “Unorthodox Jukebox” a 10 track album that quickly rose to the number one spot on the Billboard 200 only three months after its release. “Locked out of Heaven” and “When I was Your Man” were both number one tracks on this album. He was named Artist of the Year in 2013 by Billboard.

Bruno Mars performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2014 with special guests, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The same year he also played a role in the movie “Rio 2”. The next year Bruno again performed at the Super Bowl, this time as a special guest to the band Coldplay. In 2016 Mars released the album “24k Magic” which was well received. The song “That’s What I Like” made it to the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. As of 2018, Bruno Mars has 11 Grammy Awards, 3 Brit Awards, and 3 Guinness World Records.
